[00:00:00] Hi Christina, hi Evan. Welcome to our first mini-sode. Why? Thank you very much. Happy to be here. I'm excited to try out a new thing with the show. Yeah, we want to be able to give the people more. That's everybody wants they want more of us.
[00:00:20] Mark are seeing an Evan more of the Bi Pod. And so one way they're going to try that is to put out some mini episodes. So little bite-sized, bi-pod offerings. Yeah. We're envisioning the'll be between like 15 minutes and a half an hour, depending on the episode.
[00:00:42] We are going to do our best to avoid doing the thing that we always do, where we just talk and talk and talk. Yeah, um, we are a bit chatty, which I guess is good for me. Yeah, I mean hosting the podcast.
[00:00:58] But we have some ideas lined up for different mini-sodes. One of those ideas is we can read listener messages and or offer advice on professional, but solicited advice. So if you want us to talk about something or answer a question,
[00:01:22] you can find us in all the usual places and maybe we'll talk about your topic or your question on one of these little mini episodes. Yeah, do you need someone to tell you to break up with your boyfriend? Oh, I'm very good at doing that. Yeah.
[00:01:35] Just this last week, and I had a friend request that I give them the dump him please speech. And then I did. Yeah. So we are available to you. Yeah. Yeah. Any, if you want content recommendations, also happy to do that for you.
[00:01:57] Um, this could take many, many forms. Yeah, we have a very excited play and see words. Yeah. The plan is to release these in between regular episodes. So we will have our bi-weekly full-length episodes and then our bi-weekly mini episodes. So you can listen to us every week.
[00:02:21] Wow. Yeah. What a gift to you. Ha ha ha. Um, yeah. And today we're talking about pride. Yeah. And we have our own pride event. Yes. We are going to be hosting a little pride party for our patrons on June 30th.
[00:02:42] So all of the details for that will be on Patreon. Um, it will be at 11 a.m. Pacific. And yeah, you can come hang out with us if you are one of our patrons. So now would be a great time to become a patron.
[00:03:03] It would be a great time to become a patron. We had so much fun at our first patron party. Yeah. And then did a talk about hot people. Um, we are going to do something fun for this month.
[00:03:18] Um, but yeah, we're excited to hang out with you all again. Maybe see some new faces. So get over to Patreon, clear your schedule. Um, that is going to be the last day of Pride Month.
[00:03:29] So everyone goes back to being, you know, normal and boring the following day. All the corporations will delete the rainbows and move on, but not us. No, I'm glad to be a fun way to close our pride with all of you. Yeah. Yeah.
[00:03:45] Before then, you know, we hope that you're celebrating Pride all day every day, especially in the month of June. Um, so that we would give you some suggestions for ways to celebrate Pride and case you need that. Yes, you're looking for options.
[00:04:01] Yeah. So I think the pride parade is probably the first thing that most people think of them. Pride events. And we happened to love our local Pride parade. So if you've never been, I would encourage you to check it out. Yeah.
[00:04:20] Um, but if you're like, I don't know, maybe you hate parades. Um, you just said that like that's the most impossible thing. It just, you know, like there's not a lot there to dislike. Yeah.
[00:04:39] And I would say if you thought that you dislike parades have you been to a Pride parade, maybe the problem was the straightness of the parades. You know? Yeah. Or if you're in like a really big city and you don't like crowds maybe. That is true.
[00:04:52] Like I imagine there are some cities where pride can be overwhelming. Yes. Yeah. So if you were like, I don't want to like, too many people, what it doesn't. It doesn't. You have to do a parking which honestly fair. Yeah.
[00:05:05] If that is not the vibe for you, totally fair. There is often kind of spin-off events that happen either kind of surrounding the parade or just like in the month of June. Some of those will be probably sponsored by whatever organization handles pride in your area.
[00:05:30] So you may be able to find like some kind of park party Pride celebration that's happening or other pride themed events, which are going to be smaller and might be more weight. You're looking for and those can take all kinds of forms.
[00:05:50] Sometimes they are like I said a park kind of get together thing but someone might be doing like a pride movie night or whatever. Or whatever.
[00:05:59] Just depend on where you are located and I bet if you are, I guess this will also depend on the size of the city that you're in.
[00:06:13] But if you are in a major metropolitan area or nearby one, I would bet that there are a variety of events happening and that you can find one that sounds like something you might want to check out. Yeah, absolutely.
[00:06:29] Sming us a lot of is we're in Long Beach and so our pride parade actually was in May so we've been celebrating Pride early but it happens that way because the various cities in LA County spread out their pride.
[00:06:42] So we're going to be having pride until like September and if you're in the LA area that is true for you, but I imagine that if you're in a major metropolitan area or near one that also might be true for you.
[00:06:53] So if you're like, June's almost over what do I do? There's probably something going on in July if you're in a near big city. So wherever you are whenever it is there's an opportunity to be gay and celebrate. Yes.
[00:07:08] And you may again, depending on the size of your area and what you're looking for, there's often like affinity groups spaces so you may be able to find like exclusive by.
[00:07:22] So if you're doing this for the people that have these feelings that are in a particular security sector will poly-attracted events, I think it's also pretty common to have like queer people of color gatherings. And or like non binary.
[00:07:36] out, like, if you are looking for more specific experience? Yeah. Or it's just a community with people who have experience that is closer to yours or something. Yeah. If you want a more specifically intersectional experience than what have you, those events exist.
[00:07:57] I think maybe the underlying thing here is you may, depending on where you live, you have to do a little bit of groundwork to find those things. But they happen, yeah. We just before we sort of recording realize that our aquarium has a pride night,
[00:08:14] which intersects with a lot of our interests. Yes. Yeah. So who knows what kind of events you might find? Yeah, your area knows. Pride Month is also a great time to pressure your loved ones into giving queer people money, especially your straight loved ones.
[00:08:35] That could be mutual aid. That could be done into foundations or nonprofits that you want to support, or you think people should support. But if straight people are like, how do I celebrate Pride? You could tell them, give me money. Yep. Or send money into this particular fund,
[00:08:56] cause center, whatever maybe. Oh, I just thought of the website everywhere is queer. And so if you live in a place where you're like, I don't think their Pride events happening near me or I feel like I don't have access to that.
[00:09:12] I bet there is something listed on everywhere is queer. They list queer businesses from across the country. Some of them are also online. That's a great resource in general. But particularly if you're like, how do I find queer businesses to hang out?
[00:09:33] How do I find events going on? Cause those queer businesses are also going to be really likely to be hosting things. One of our local coffee shops is a queer owned coffee shop and they're having a Pride ASL class. Like, so lots of stuff happening.
[00:09:49] I'm doing hands to indicate many options. Yeah, you're just painting a wide range. Yes. Of choices? Yeah, and if any of those events have an admissions charge, that's a great thing to get the straight people in your life to pay for. Mm-hmm.
[00:10:05] I wish I was going to be in Tom for the queer aquarium night cause we could make my shape boyfriend by our tickets. I think I see you still can. Well, I'm a member so I don't have to pay for my engagement. Sure. Okay.
[00:10:18] Even better, I get a shape person to pay for your membership. That big. Answer in-depth critique of rainbow capitalism here. But this is a great time to get some gay swag. Yeah. There's, I mean, all year round, there are queer things
[00:10:38] to purchase, but a lot of places where you can get queer memorabilia, clothing, et cetera, that are maybe like more visible or more available this month. Yes, it becomes often more straightforward to get yourself a queer, queer, queer. So queer, queer. How dare you gay forward?
[00:11:05] Particularly if you want a cute little outfit for your dog or her baby in your life or something, now it's the time. Put that baby in a rainbow. Absolutely. Um, of course bonus points. If you are buying from a queer, maker, queer owned business
[00:11:25] which there are many and you can absolutely find. Yeah, I mean, there will never be more things with rainbows and gay slogans on them than in the month of June. Yeah, my ears should see my Instagram ads. I know you have.
[00:11:44] I have a pillow case that says tired and gay. And if you wanted one, now this month it will be the time to find one. Yeah. I just yesterday bought myself a pride gift. I bought a chapel-grown earrings that say hot to go. So can't wait.
[00:12:02] We will include a link in the show notes to a to talk about I saw today of someone's church bells playing hot to go on the first day pride month. As they should. Yeah, as they all should.
[00:12:18] If you, if the events happening in your local area don't work for you or you want more events, you also can host a little gathering of where I guess it could be whatever size you want. But an intimate gathering of your queer friends, queer community.
[00:12:37] And then you get to decide what that looks like all the control and y'all's hands. You, Evan, always host a little pride to get together after the parade here. And it's a hot event. It's fun. It's very fun. I look forward to that. Yeah, yeah, we get snacks.
[00:12:55] We go to the parade. Some people don't go to the parade they show about her. Totally fine. We have snacks. We hang out. This is where we played Scatagories. We did. And it was great. And pride can be whatever you want it to be.
[00:13:13] So if you don't see what you want in your local area, you can make what you want. Yeah, yeah. We also have a resource to share. It's not our resource. We're just going to tell you about it. A virtual calendar.
[00:13:27] Yeah, if you go on Instagram to virtual pride now. They have a virtual calendar filled with, I'm going to say, a little 30, 7 times. I guess you can just say a calendar. It's a calendar. It's a paper calendar that mail teams can think of.
[00:13:41] They have a calendar that is filled with all virtual pride events. All of the events are free or low cost. And so wherever you are whenever you are, there is something on the calendar that you could attend.
[00:13:55] Most of the events are based in the US and most of the events are an English, but they're open to adding any and all pride events. So if you have some native language or somewhere else, you can send it to them.
[00:14:09] We'll put that Instagram or we'll put their website in our description. And that calendar is being put together with support from the by-pand library. Who we love? So I'm excited about that resource. We are happy to share on our Instagram stuff that's going on.
[00:14:30] So if you are hosting something probably virtually, but I guess could be in any format. We can share to our stories. We can help you put the word out. Yeah, just send it to us. But that was our first mini-zone. It was.
[00:14:48] I wanted to acknowledge that we talked a lot about a lot of ways to go out and celebrate pride. And if that's not what you want your pride to look like, you want a time of reflection or you want a time of learning history,
[00:15:03] I think both of those things are great. You could stay in and watch queer movies, listen to queer music. There are many ways to celebrate pride. But it is, for us at least, it's really nice to be in community. I mean, always, but particularly to celebrate pride.
[00:15:29] Yeah, absolutely. I appreciate that distinction. And as always, you don't owe coming out to anybody. So if being in a physical pride event would not feel good for you, you can attend these virtual events in the privacy of your own home.
[00:15:45] And also, like you said, listen to queer music. Do something nice for yourself because if you're a queer person, you have to be nice yourself to be in pride. It's the law. And no matter what your pride looks like, it's valid because there is.
[00:16:04] If you would like someone to wish you a happy pride, you can send us a message, a DM on Instagram, or what have you. And we will tell you happy pride. Yeah. All kinds of offerings today. Yeah. Yeah. I love that.
[00:16:23] You know, I'm all we're excited to see some of you all at the end of this month. Enjoy pride. Happy pride. Happy pride. Yeah. And we'll be back soon with a full-length episode. Yeah. Hope to see you at our pride party. It'll be fun. Well. Good bye.
